Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT) stems from standard DBT, however, the focus of this treatment is different. RO-DBT is helpful in treating individuals who have high levels of anxiety, depression and repression of emotion, anorexia and other eating disorders, perfectionism, and social anxiety among others. Often in life we are taught the emotional self-control is valued and at times this becomes unbalanced causing emotional restriction, internalizing, and reduced social interaction.
RO-DBT skills focus on improving engagement with the world and people around you. Treatment works to help the client challenge rules they follow that do not allow them to be genuine or authentic which in turns can cause misery, resentment, and general unhappiness. RO-DBT teaches skills to improve emotion management as well as relationship development and genuine expression of true emotion.
RO-DBT Themes include the following:
1. Receptivity and Openness
2. Flexible-Control
3. Intimacy and Connectedness
